Illness Stops Me in Mid-Sentence

Happy Sunday! My next novel has hit a bit of a snag. I haven’t been able to get much writing done for the past two weeks because I have fallen ill. What started as a slight cold has turned into a full-blown severe case of bronchitis. So, I haven’t been able to do very much. I haven’t even been able to go see the Joker movie yet. So overall, I’m not doing well.

For two weeks I have been taking over the counter medicines thinking this was just an ordinary cold but then something strange started happening. The cough kept getting increasingly worse. Within days it went from being barely noticeable to causing me to cough so hard that it’s hard to stop causing my insides to hurt. I have lost sleep and patience. Yesterday I went to the doctor and after he diagnosed me as having severe bronchitis, he gave me a breathing treatment and put me on some medications and an inhaler. So, after receiving the bad news I did what any writer would do, I went to Starbucks and got my favorite Autumn drink. A Pumpkin Spiced Latte and a chocolate croissant. I’m crying on the inside as I enjoy both, don’t judge me lol.

So, there you have it. This illness has forced me to put my book on the sidelines as I try to get better. I have never had bronchitis before, so this is extremely uncomfortable and draining me of all my energy yet still I managed to go to work everyday and tough it out. What can I say? I take a licking and keep on ticking. Somebody has to pay the bills sick or not. I have modified the amount of work that I do on the weekends to allow time for me to heal. I need rest and lots of meds. But I still wanted to reach out to all of you today to give you an idea of what I’ve been going through. If I had my way, I would be done with this draft of the book already, but life happens. The temperature in my city of Chicago has dropped considerably this weekend so hopefully, that doesn’t cause a slower recovery for me. I can’t wait to get back to my old self again and see my son finally remove the surgical mask he’s been wearing around the house in order to make me laugh and keep from catching what I’ve got.

I did manage to get some help from a certain boyfriend/Bff on how to write a book series. He gave me some tips on things that I need to consider when putting it all together and I couldn’t be more thankful. I have been beta-reading his book series to give him feedback as he prepares to have Book 1: “Soul Moon Draw” edited. I hope to be finished with that sometime this month.

My Advanced Fiction Writing class also begins this Wednesday so I hope the meds will get me back in creative mode in time to learn some new things about writing from an Author who really seems to know his stuff. I’m very excited about the class and will keep you posted as to how it’s going. The goal here is to become a better writer and make me and my readers happy. Constantly learning new things is one of the keys to success.

Have a great week everyone.
