Out with the Old in with the New

Summer is almost over and my favorite season will soon begin. Hey there and Happy Sunday to all of you. I can’t believe the year is half over, where did the time go? What I find hard to believe is that I spent half a year working on a book that will never see the light of day again. Yes, I beat the dead horse and buried it. The story about a war between Angels and Demons could’ve been great and sounded great but I just couldn’t manage the plot the way that I wanted. It proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. I have spent the past few weeks revising a story that I wrote back in 2008-2009.

It’s called The Awakening and it’s about a family that hunts Vampires in San Antonio Texas. The story originally took place in Seattle Washington but a friend from work inspired me to change the location. At the time that I started writing this book, I was kind of inspired by the Twilight franchise and the TV show Supernatural. (I had not read the Twilight books.) I have loved Vampires since the earliest films came out. Who hasn’t? So, I eventually decided to see if I could come up with a good story of my own. It turned out to be pretty decent but back then I had no interest in getting it published. I only wrote it for myself, so I just saved it to a disc and stored it somewhere with all of my other stories. I never planned to pick it up again…until now.

I recently pulled it out of my closet and decided to read it. I was surprised at how short it was, under two hundred pages, so I guess it was a short story. I read some of it and decided to add more scenes and make some necessary changes to update it. I enjoyed working on it more than the story I was recently working on. After giving it a lot of thought I decided to bring this story to life with plans to publish it. I know that Vampires are not being talked about anymore, but I still find them fascinating. There’s many more stories out there that have yet to be told. I’m enjoying writing again and have been procrastinating a lot less. I had to cut half of what was already written because it just wasn’t strong enough plot-wise. I have made name changes and am adding brand new scenes and added one plot twist that I think really works. I will keep you posted on how this new novel goes. But so far, I am enjoying the ride.

Have a great week…
