How I Got Started Writing

When I was about 11 years-old my parents took me to see the movie The Empire Strikes Back. Let’s just say, I haven’t been the same since. That movie alone had changed my life. I was so lucky to have grown up during the greatest era for movies ever. I saw films like Rocky, Superman (The Movie), Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and of course Star Wars. Believe it or not, I saw The Empire Strikes Back before I saw Star Wars A New Hope. Why I don’t know. I got caught up eventually. It didn’t matter, I wanted to be Princess Leia and marry Luke Skywalker. I didn’t know she was his sister yet. He was my first love. I became a huge fan of Mark Hamill and his work as an actor. George Lucas created a world that I had never seen before and I wanted to be a part of it like so many other fans out there. It’s amazing how when your watching a movie together in a theatre, it doesn’t matter what color you are or how old you are, what your sexual preference is or what gender you identify with. We are really all the same aren’t we? Enjoying the same thing at the same time, sharing similar thoughts and just having fun. I love the movies. I wanted to write a play like Star Wars so I did. I had no idea what the format of a play was so I did the best I could at age 11. It was the most I had ever wrote in my entire life. It was a full length manuscript and surprisingly decent for a science fiction play. That’s what triggered it. Thank you Mr. Lucas…
